(Rock Island, IL) -- The Rock Island Fire Department is advising residents to clear snow off fire hydrants at least three feet from all directions.

It is to help the crew access the hydrant more easily to battle fires that can occur.

A press release says fire hydrants are necessary to battle large fires as they can output between 200 to 300 gallons of water per minute.
