A 'First' For Omaha Weather Forecasters

In this challenging run of heavy winter weather in the Midlands, there was a "first" for the Omaha/Council Bluffs area during that burst of snow Thursday afternoon: A "Snow Squall" Warning that had social media buzzing.

"It's kind of a new product, it's been around a couple years," Omaha National Weather Service Meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen tells KFAB Radio News. "We haven't issued one in Omaha until yesterday."

Nicolaisen says, "you just have to have the right ingredients, a little bit of some snow, mixed with some very strong winds, and it can get real ugly in a hurry."

Nicolaisen says the "Squall Warning" is aimed at drivers to alert them to slow down or even pull over.
