Iowa father charged with kidnapping after abduction triggers Amber Alert

(Jefferson, IA) -- An Iowa man is in custody after allegedly abducting his seven-year old son then engaging in a standoff with police in Northwest Iowa.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 34-year old Brandon Duong took his son Bryson Duong from Greene Elementary School in Jefferson on Tuesday. A December 2023 court order restricted Brandon from having custody of his son.

An Amber Alert was issued for Bryson around 3:30 p.m.

Police then located Brandon's car just before 5 p.m. in an area northeast of Remsen, in Plymouth County. After a chase, Brandon got out of the car carrying his son, and a rifle.

He later surrendered to police after a standoff that lasted more than two hours.

Bryson was released to the care of the Department of Human Services.
