Two men charged in December 2022 Des Moines homicide

Des Moines Police announced on Thursday that two brothers have been charged in the December 2022 shooting death of a 35-year old Des Moines man.

35-year old James Wiggins and 38-year old Marcell Wiggins are facing several charges in the death of Tyrone Hutchins, who was shot and later died from his injuries.

Police are charging James with first-degree murder, while Marcell is charged with going armed with intent, and felon in possession of a gun.

Hutchins was shot on December 10, 2022, and was found by police on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound outside of a bar near Drake University. He later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

Police say the evidence indicates the two men charged were both armed with handguns when they went to confront Hutchins at Rico's Bar on December 10, 2022. After a confrontation, Hutchins attempted to leave the bar, before he was shot and killed by James.

Both James and Marcell were living in Las Vegas, and were taken into custody with help from the U-S Marshals.

Marcell was taken into custody in early January, and was returned to Des Moines. He was released from the Polk County Jail about two weeks later. James was taken into custody last week, and his the process of extraditing him back to Des Moines is ongoing.
