(Davenport, IA) -- The City of Davenport may create its own Animal Services Unit to deal with lost pets, strays, and nuisance complaints.

The city's current contract with the Humane Society will end this summer, after the Humane Society said it needed a million dollars more to continue.

The City Council will consider a proposal to create a new Davenport Animal Services Unit, that would be a sub-division of the City Police Department.

The motion is on the agenda for the Council meeting this Wednesday.
