Omaha Area Sheriff's Deputy Ticketed For Misdemeanor Sexual Assault

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says after consulting the County Attorney’s Office and Omaha City Prosecutor’s Office, a Sheriff's Deputy has been criminally cited for 3rd Degree Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Misdemeanor.

Investigators say Juan Casado Moya has been with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for eleven years and was assigned as a School Resource Officer at Elkhorn South High School from last August until being relieved of duty earlier this month.

The Sheriff's Office says the victim is a student of Elkhorn South High School, and witnesses have been interviewed who have corroborated the victim’s account.

The Deputy invoked his 5th amendment right to decline a criminal interview.

This case will be prosecuted by the Omaha City Prosecutor’s Office, which is responsible for misdemeanor cases countywide.

With the criminal investigation portion complete, there will be a separate and distinct internal investigation.

The Deputy will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome.
