Arson Investigation Underway Into Rock Island Livestock Auction Barn Fire

(Rock Island, IL) -- An arson investigation is underway as police continue to look for information about the Rock Island Livestock Auction Barn fire.

The Rock Island Fire Department responded to reports of a large structure fire around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 24, at 534 34th Avenue and discovered a fire on the back side of the barn.

Multiple fire departments assisted in extinguishing the fire due to its size.

The fire is being investigated as arson by the Rock Island Fire Marshal and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Rock Island Police Department, although investigators didn't mention anything about suspects.

The fire destroyed the barn that was originally built nearly 100 years ago.

Over two dozen cows were rescued from the fire while one was killed.
