Ames Police Dispatcher Helps Parents Deliver Son

(Ames, IA) -- An Ames Police dispatcher is being honored for helping an expectant mother deliver a baby at home. Police say Angie Van Westen took a call January 30th, from a man stating his wife was in labor. Twenty-seconds later, their baby boy arrived. Angie helped the new parents over the phone until paramedics arrived. Police say it was her first childbirth assist in her 26-year career.
