(Rock Island, IL) -- Rock Island City Council meets tonight to pass a resolution opposing Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's proposed elimination of the 1-percent state grocery tax.

City staff say Rock Island stands to lose nearly a million dollars in revenue if the tax is lifted.

Council will also swear-in a new alderman tonight. Kevin Maynard, executive director of Quad City Arts, will fill the Third Ward vacancy left when Judith Gilbert resigned in January.
