(Iowa City, IA) -- West Liberty Foods, a turkey processing plant, has declared layoffs affecting 260 workers, constituting approximately 25% of its workforce.

The layoffs announced Monday, set to commence on April 29th, are accompanied by the temporary suspension of matching contributions to employees' 401(k) accounts.

The decision to discontinue certain operations, including ready-to-eat slicing and second-shift fabrication units, reflects the company's strategic adjustments to meet shifting market demands.

While the company expresses regret over the need for layoffs, it emphasizes its commitment to assisting affected employees in finding new employment opportunities.

This announcement comes amidst broader economic challenges within the food processing industry.
