(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Opening statements began in Linn County Court yesterday for a former childcare center owner.

Jeff Dodds is pleading not guilty to charges of child sex abuse.

Dodds, and his wife, former Coralville city councilor Jill, owned Simple Abundance daycare in 2021.

That's where prosecutors say Dodds abused one of the children in his care.

If convicted he faces up to 75 years in prison.
