Fatal Northwest Douglas County Crash Investigated

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division continues to investigate a fatal crash.

The Sheriff says Deputies went to 240th and Pawnee Rd / Hwy 36 Thursday afternoon for a two-vehicle personal injury collision.

Deputies and fire and rescue personnel came upon a dump truck and a Chevy Sonic in the northeast corner of the intersection.

Investigators say the driver of the Sonic was declared deceased at the scene by rescue personnel.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The preliminary investigation shows both vehicles were eastbound on Highway 36 approaching 240th St.

When the dump truck attempted to turn north onto 240th, it was struck by the Chevy which was attempting to pass the dump truck in the westbound lane.

The Sheriff's Office says alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The name of the deceased driver will be released after notification of next of kin.
