(Jones, County, IA) -- The widow of an Anamosa correctional officer killed by two inmates in a failed escape attempt is suing 26 defendants including Jones County.

In an interview with the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Sara McFarland says staff shortages, overcrowding, and a lack of safety procedures led to the death of her husband Robert, and Lorena Schulte, a registered nurse in 2021.

Schulte's mother filed her own lawsuit in January.

Both inmates pleaded guilty to murdering the two victims with a metal hammer.
