Iowa still thirsty, dry conditions spread

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mindy Behrends says storms dropped between one quarter and one half  inch of rain on the Des Moines area this (Thursday) morning.

She says parts of western and northwest Iowa received a inch or more of rain.   Guthrie Center recorded 1.7 inches of rain and Rockwell City had nearly 1.5 inches.

The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of the state in dry conditions, with southern Iowa being the most dry, in the severe drought category.
