Van and Bonnie in the Morning

Details on Discounted First Day of the Fair! (Bonnie's blog 8/6/14)

Our special guest this morning just after the 7:30 news was Michael Swanger of the Iowa History Journal.  They will have a booth this year in the Ag Building in the balcony.  The current issue (July/August) has an article on the Legacy of Floppy.  They will also have some Floppy items for sale at their booth at the Fair.  The current issue also has the Jack Dittmer story.  The Iowa History Journal is available at all Hy-Vee Stores or by subscription at www.IowaHistoryJournal.com or by calling 515-490-7325.

Kelly Foss of the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news and she brought along Greg & Polly Rinehart, farmers with a stand at the Market each Saturday morning.  They brought in some fresh sweet corn, tomatoes, zuchinni, honey, and green beans....yummy!  These are all available at their stand along with watermelon and muskmelon.  They are located at the corner of 5th & Court.  The Market runs 7AM-Noon each Saturday and parking is available in parking ramps at 3rd & Court, 5th & Court as well as metered parking (free on weekends).

Tomorrow morning we will be broadcasting live from the Iowa State Fair on Expo Hill.  Please stop by and get your name in the drawing for cash prizes and Lady Antebellem tickets (courtesy of the Iowa Lottery)....giveaways will start at 6AM....so come early and get your name in the running!

Be sure to clip the $5.00 off coupon from the Des Moines Sunday Register (August 3rd)...it's good for one person 5AM to Noon on the first day of the Fair.  Enter thru the Campgrounds gate, Rock Island gate, Grand Avenue gate or the North Parking Lot gate for your free "All or Nothing" lottery play starting at 5AM til they're gone.  One play per person aged 21 or older.

See you tomorrow at the Iowa State Fair....5-9AM on Expo Hill, 9:15AM to 9:45AM at the Crystal Studios, 10AM-1PM in the Varied Industries Building in the SE Atrium with the Iowa Food & Family Project and 2-5PM in the Ag Building handing out eggs on a stick for the Iowa Egg Council.
