New central Iowa wind farm moves forward

Plans for a $58 million central Iowa wind farm are moving forward.

An Italian company plans to install ten wind turbines in Story, Boone, Hardin and Poweshiek counties.

The project is expected to generate 110 GWh per year, or enough energy to power eleven-thousand households. .

It's funded by Building Energy Wind Iowa LLC a subsidiary of a Italian-based,  Building Energy SpA.

The turbines each have a rotor diameter of  410 feet, on a steel tower that's 287 feet tall.

Company officials estimate that amount of energy will contribute to the reduction of 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions, as well as provide local economic benefits, including construction and long term operation and maintenance jobs.
