Microsoft to give West Des Moines $1.175 million

Microsoft's gain is a gain for the City of West Des Moines.

The company has a surplus in its budget for construction of a data center in West Des Moines. So they've agreed to donate $1.175 million to the city for conservation and trails projects.

Councilman Russ Trimble says $900,000 will go to help fund the project that seeks to build an amphitheater on the city campus property.  About 1.6 million still needs to be raised to make those plans a reality, according to city officials.

The rest will go to conservation efforts both in West Des Moines and Warren County, and for trails.
