So far, this is turning out to be the driest June on record for the Des Moines area.
"Unfortunately, it is." National Weather Service Meteorologist Allan Curtis tells WHO Radio News.
"There are a few other years when we had trace amounts, which is essentially zero. But, yes, it is our driest June ever." He says the last time there was so little rain in June was 1948, when just a trace was measured.
Average rain for the Des moines area at this point in the month of June is 1.81 inches.
Curtis says although we might see a little rain tonight and overnight, overall it will remain drier than usual for at least the coming week.
