Des Moines counts its 17th and 18 Homicides of the year overnight Saturday. This police dispatch audio is difficult to understand at first, but it gives an idea of the scene when police arrived just after 3 this morning.

Dennis Rupe lives a few doors from where two men were shot to death overnight.  911 callers say they heard more than a dozen shots. Rupe says he didn't hear the gunfire, but his dogs did.   When he got outside his house, there was chaos down the block.

Des Moines police confirm that when officers arrived in the 18-hundred block of Easton Boulevard they found two Des Moines men shot.

26 year old Darnell Lee was already dead.   30 year old Jason A. Smith was taken to the hospital, but died.
