A vintage World War Two bomber was flying over the skies of Des Moines Monday.
Keith Youngblood of the Liberty Foundation says it's a preview of a public appearance by a Flying Fortress airplane nicknamed "the Madras Maiden" this weekend.
"We're going to have a B-17 bomber, a World War Two bomber, out there and we'd love for people to come out and just to get a little taste of history in flight."
Youngblood explains how the over 70-year old plane got its nickname, 'The Madras Maiden'.
"The B-17 base that was in Madras, Oregon...(is) how she got the name. Basically, to honor all those crew members who were out there training for World War Two out in Oregon."
Youngblood says Sunday will be a great opportunity to bond with any relative who fought in World War Two or any kids who need a fun way to learn more history. He says ground tours of the plane will be free, but, it'll cost you $450 to take a flight. Youngblood says it takes a lot of expensive fuel and fixing to keep "the Madras Maiden" flying.
