A member of Iowa AARP is warning about a "hidden age tax" as Congress debates the American Health Care Act.

"Raising costs of premiums by up to $11,000 a year.  An average of somewhere between $5,000-to-$10,000 dollars for someone 55 to 65."

Anthony Carroll is Associate State Director for Advocacy for the Iowa AARP.  He says you could be facing 'a world of problems' depending on how Congress votes on the AHCA.

"There are impacts that we believe to be harmful, that we know, we know will be harmful to our members. So, we're trying to inform them about exactly how it will impact their lives."

Carroll wants you to contact Iowa's Senators to protest the "age tax", and, also, the possible loss of coverage for  preexisting conditions.

Iowa AARP is holding a series of informational meetings on the AHCA around the state.  There was one Wednesday over the lunch hour at the Des Moines Botanical Center.  There are others scheduled for Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Waterloo and Dubuque.
