Iowa's 2017 World Food Prize winner announced

The World Food Prize is announcing its 2017 Laureate.

Ambassador Ken Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation made the announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture building in Washinton, D.C.  

"It is therefore my great personal honor to announce that the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate is the former Vice President of AGRA, the former Minister of Agriculture for Nigeria, and the current President of the African Development Bank, Doctor Akinwumi Adesina."  Quinn said.

The World Food Prize Award will be officially presented to Dr. Adesina at a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines this October.

The World Food Prize is often called the Nobel Prize of Agriculture.
