The Sheriff is making a public statement about the firing of a Deputy Friday.
Polk County Sheriff Bill McCarthy says his office does not normally comment on the reasons for an employee's discipline until appeals are completed. However, given the publicity generated by the firing of former Deputy Dan Charleston, the Sheriff says his office is making an exception.
McCarthy says the firing has nothing to do with recent social media posts by Charleston about the Koran and Muslims.
A statement from the Sheriff's office (see below) says the disciplinary process for employee rule violations was underway long before those postings.
