Strong storms and even tornadoes  moved through south central and central Iowa.

The National Weather Service reports that quarter-sized hail was reported in Clive, with reports of large hail in Waukee and Windsor Heights as well.

Traffic ground to a halt on several streets near the downtown Des Moines area around 5:15pm as torrential rains overwhelmed storm sewers and streets became flooded.

A tornado warning was issued for Adair and Madison counties around 5:45pm. The Iowa Storm Chasing Network shot the above photo of a tornado touching down in rural Stuart.

Around 6:02pm spotters reported seeing a tornado on the ground near Pleasantville in Warren County. Power lines were downed and the National Weather Service said radar confirmed the debris field near the intersection of Highway 169 and Highway 58 south of Pleasantville. It travelled east toward Pella before heading back into the clouds.

Another tornado was spotted both on radar and by the public about an hour later heading toward southern Pleasantville.

UPDATE:  In eastern Iowa, a woman was injured when her house collapsed around her in Prairieburg in rural Linn County last night as a tornado moved through.  She was rushed to an area hospital.  KCRG-TV reports that all of the buildings in her home were either destroyed or sustained severe damage.

The Linn County Sheriff's office has cordoned off the town of Prairieburg and is asking people to avoid the area.  Several homes were severely damaged by the tornado that moved through.

In Central City in Linn County, the Linn County Fair was underway for the first day when about 800 people had to evacuate the grandstand because of a tornado warning.  The twister didn't come near the fairgrounds but several tents were blown over.  Noone was injured.
