UPDATE---Des Moines Woman shot dies after police shooting


UPDATE---The three Des Moines Police officers involved in Wednesday's deadly police shooting are being identified:

They are: Senior Police Officer Brian Buck (hired October 2010), Senior Police Officer Brandon Holtan (hired August 2012) and Senior Police Officer Brady Pratt (hired August 2013).

In accordance to standard operating procedures, each officer is currently on paid Administrative leave.  Police are not saying which officer fired the fatal shot.

UPDATE---The woman shot by a Des Moines police officer early Wednesday morning is dead.

Police say she is 29 year old Tiffany Lynn Potter of Des Moines.

They say she was trying to escape a police chase when she pulled into a random driveway on East 14th Street and fled on foot.

Potter was armed with a handgun and fired at least one round at officers.  One of three cops at the scene returned fire.  No officers were hurt.

When she went down, officers immediately started first aid.  Video and witness statements confirm all these details.

An update on the case is scheduled for later Wednesday.

---Original Story---

At approximately 2:01 a.m., 05 July 2017, Des Moines Police Department patrol officers were involved in a shooting incident at 1623 E. 14th Street.

An adult female was injured in this incident, and has been transported to a local hospital. No officers were injured. 

As is standard, investigators from the Iowa Department of Public Safety – Division of Criminal Investigation are assisting Des Moines Police Department detectives with investigating this incident. The Des Moines Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit is processing the scene for evidence. 

At this time, E. 14th Street, both northbound and southbound lanes between E. Washington Ave. and Osceola Ave., are closed. It is expected that by the morning commute, all southbound lanes will be open and northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Additional information will be released as it becomes available to share.
