US Senator driving Uber in Des Moines

You may have heard that a U.S. Senator from Nebraska lost a bet and would be cruising Iowa City as an Uber driver this weekend, but, WHO Radio News got the real facts straight from the horse's mouth: "I think I am, because of the bet I lost, required to drive wearing a little bit of Hawkeye gear.  There was no Iowa City component to this.  So, yeah, I'm in Des Moines (Friday)."

Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse explains, "Last year, during the Nebraska-Iowa game, I thought it was going to come out differently than it did and I agreed to accept the challenge that if Nebraska lost to the Hawkeyes, I would have to wear Hawkeye gear and drive an Uber in Iowa."

Sasse says you'll be able to recognize him easily, "It'll be weird, I think, for a guy to show up decked out in Iowa gear and just be weeping about it."  He says he thought it would be a safe bet when he picked his beloved Cornhuskers to beat the Hawkeyes last fall.  That score turned out to be 40-to-10 in Iowa's favor.

And, to add insult to injury, Senator Sasse says Senate rules prevent him from getting compensated for his "side-hustle", so any money he raises will go to charity.

Senator Ben Sasse making his comments to guest host Chris Baker on the Angelo in the A-M show on NewsRadio 1040 WHO Friday morning.
