Utilities Urge Iowans to sign Move Over Pledge

Utility companies are asking Iowans to sign an on-line pledge, to "Move Over or Slow Down."   The law, which requires drivers to move over when they see emergency vehicles,  expanded this month to include service vehicles.

Representatives from MidAmerican Energy, Alliant Energy, and the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives gathered at Governor Kim Reynolds weekly news conference today (Monday) in Des Moines, to encourage Iowans to sign the pledge as a way to raise awareness about the expanded law.

Jim Dougherty of MidAmerican Energy says drivers have hit their vehicles more than 500 times so far in 2017.

Alliant Energy Lineman Corey Birkel says they've been concerned about distracted drivers, who don't always see the orange cones and flashing lights, and don't see (utility crews) and change the way they drive.

The on-line pledge is at www.MoveOverIowa.com.
