Human chain rescues 8 people caught in Florida riptide

Beach-goers rescue eight trapped in riptide. By WHJG TV

When two boys, ages 8 and 11 got caught in a riptide off Panama City Beach, their Mom and several other adults rushed in to get them, but all six people were unable to get out of the rip tide.  Then something remarkable happened.

"We got caught in the current, and well, out Mom had to go in after me and my brother."  Stephen Ursrey tells WJHG TV.  "The people made a human chain and pulled us out."

Other beach-goers held hands, and stretched out into the water to reach the family and pull them all to safety.
