One man is dead, two others hospitalized after a head-on crash in a construction zone Saturday night. It happened on a Tama County road just before 11 Saturday night.
Two vehicles collided head-on in a bridge construction zone where traffic was down to one lane.
81-year old Donald Selken of Vinton died at the scene. His passenger, 73-year old Lois Schmitt, and the driver of the other vehicle, 74-year old David Keidel, were taken to a Waterloo hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not known.
State Patrol says the two survivors owe their lives to seatbelt use, but, Selken was wearing his seatbelt and did not survive.
