A state senator from Des Moines's being honored by the Iowa Democratic Party this year.
State Senator Matt McCoy will be inducted into his party's "Hall of Fame" as an "outstanding elected official".
McCoy was the first openly gay state legislator in Iowa. He's been in the Iowa Senate since 1997, and prior to that was in the Iowa House from 1993-1997.
He will be honored at a Hall of Fame "celebration" at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center Thursday July 27th at the Grand Ballroom.
Acting Party Chair Andrea Phillips says unlike the dinner-and-speeches events of the past, this year's event will be "more of a party atmosphere" featuring appetizers.
Tickets to the event can be purchased here.
