An 18-day-old West Des Moines baby has died after being infected with the cold sore virus.
Mariana was born healthy 18 days ago, on July 1, but six days later her parents took her to the hospital after she stopped eating and couldn't wake up.
Doctors tell the parents that the newborn developed Meningitis after someone infected with the cold sore virus HSV1 touched her.
Both parents tested negative.
Baby Mariana's mom, Nicole Sifrit posted on her Facebook page this morning that the baby passed away in her daddy's arms at 8:41 Tuesday morning.
The family has started a GoFundMe page to cover hospital and now funeral expenses.
