Another adoption abuse case involves Ankeny couple

An Ankeny couple is in the Polk County jail, facing charges of child endangerment causing injury.

55 year old John Bell and his wife, 57 year old Joyce Bell are in the Polk County Jail.  They were arrested last night after inquiries into the abuse of nine children with disabilities the couple had adopted out of foster care.

In a copyrighted story, the Des Moines Register says a police records request showed over 68 police reports of reported child abuse at the couple's home.

The Register reports that the couple adopted children with disabilities ranging in age from 16 to 38, according to the couple's 24 year old adopted daughter.

At Thursday night's Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame event, State Senator Matt McCoy said the arrest is a result of the cuts that the GOP legislature and the Republican governor have pushed onto the state Department of Human Services.  McCoy said that Republicans "own it" when it comes to the abuse cases.
