The campground at Ledges State Park south of Boone will likely be closed for most of the 2018 recreational season. Crews plan to make electrical upgrades, to meet what's been a rising camp site demand. Last year, Ledges had nearly 15,300 campers, more than any other state park in Iowa.
Ledges is also planning to spend roughly a million dollars, to fix it's popular Canyon Road, which was heavily damaged by a mud-slide this year.
"It's the focal point of the park. It's why we're one of the most unique parks in the state. We want to maintain that access and keep it accessible to all people," said Park Manger Andy Bartlett.
Bartlett says the project will dependent on weather, and the selection of contractors and designers, but most of the construction will happen after the ground thaws in 2018. He suspects the work will continue through most of the 2018 recreation season.
Bartlett says the route will likely change a little bit, to avoid future potential mudslides.
