Many Iowans are planning trips to Nebraska or Missouri where the total eclipse of the sun will be experienced to its full extent.
However, Herb Schwartz of the Drake Observatory tells WHO Radio News you don't have to travel to get up to 95% of the effect.
This blog discusses what we in Iowa will experience and this map explains the path of best viewing.
Herb tells us he has around 190 special filters that he will be giving away during a free class he plans to hold at the Observatory, Monday night - the 14th - at 8pm.
Everyone is invited and the event is free. Herb cautions, using anything BUT a special filter can damage your eyes.
