Bowling balls found in Des Moines recycling bins

Metro Waste Authority Recycling center occasionally gets some weird stuff.

Spokesperson Leslie Irlbeck says recently they've received a number of bowling balls and bowling pins, which can do a lot of damage to the facility.  They're urging customers to find another way to get rid of such items, like donate or try and sell them.

Irlbeck also is also reminding customers to avoid putting clothing or plastic sacks in thee green containers.   She also says double check plastics, because some do not belong in the bin either.

Irlbeck says Des Moines area residents recycle about 20-thousand tons of material each year, which is pretty good, but there are far too many items that end up in the green bins, that should really go in the trash.
