The Des Moines Blank Park Zoo's announcing the names of two baby animals. "Gigi" is the female Japanese macaque born June 3rd, and named in memory of Helen Hubbell by Michael, Debbie and Rusty Hubbell. ‘Gizmo’ is the male Magellanic penguin that hatched on May 26 that was named by Karen Pearston and Paul Moran.
Zoo visitors are able to see both baby animals. ‘Gigi’ is available to be viewed most days from the west Japanese macaque viewing deck between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ‘Gizmo’ can be viewed in the indoor viewing area of the Magellanic penguin exhibit on most days.
The new penguin has also been photographed by a National Geographic photographer, for an endangered animal photography project.
