The Des Moines Area Community College Criminal Justice program is adding a "CSI" -crime scene investigation certificate.
Students enrolled learn about foot-prints, blood stain patterns, and electronic crimes, with cell phone and computer forensics.
Instructor as Danielle Galien say TV crime shows have sparked a lot of interest in crime-science in general, but advances in technology have placed more demands on the findings from crime labs.
She says the most successful students are curious, and want to know how and why something happened. She says they also need to be patient and pay close attention to detail.
Galien says it’s great training for students pursuing criminal justice careers or working professionals who want to add criminal investigation skills to their resume.
