Cameron Halbur and her younger brother Hayden Halbur of Rock Valley, Iowa help out with parlor rollers at the Iowa State Fair. These flight-less pigeons love to roll, and put on a show today (Tuesday) just outside the gates of the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Larry Jenson of Estherville, Iowa tells WHO-Radio news the younger birds seem to roll more than the older ones. These birds have a log history, once entertaining kings and queens centuries ago.
Jenson says the birds are a little jumpy and excitable, and are difficult to raise.
He says they do like to roll though, noting it's just in their nature. The longest distance a parlor roller pigeon has ever traveled at the State Fair, is 221 feet.
