Iowa pipleline protesters sued for millions in damage they caused

Jessica Reznicek                Ruby Montoya

Two women who admit they caused millions in damage when the Dakota Access pipeline was being built through Iowa are now named as "eco-terrorists" in a federal lawsuit filed by the pipeline operator.

Jessica Reznicek and Ruby Montoya are named in the lawsuit, filed in US District Court in North Dakota. The filing says the two are members of "Mississippi Stand" and "were incited" by the "misinformation campaign" about the pipeline into burning heavy construction equipment, and using blowtorches to cut holes in segments of the interstate pipeline."

The lawsuit says the two have "issued a call to action for others to follow in their violent and terrorist actions and have provided a blueprint for arson and property destruction."

The lawsuit is filed under the RICO (Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) statute. The company says that Greenpeace International and other groups including Mississippi Stand conspired to use "misinformation and false statements" to justify protests and violent action against the construction of the pipeline.

The other named parties have not yet filed any written response to the suit yet.
