Mercy Chefs, a Virginia based non-profit, disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization has deployed their team of professional chefs to feed victims and first responders in Rockport and Houston, Texas.
The relief group is onsite in Rockport, Texas today at the invitation of a County Judge, the Chief of Police and the Director of the State Feeding Task Force. Rockport is ground zero for Hurricane Harvey. The storm made its initial and strongest hit here in this city, and unlike many of the surrounding areas, forty percent of residents chose not to evacuate. Daily, Mercy Chefs is serving thousands of chef-prepared meals to first responders and stranded residents throughout the city.
In addition to their relief efforts in Rockport, Mercy Chefs is preparing to respond to the unfolding disaster in Houston. Already the organization has been asked to provide 10,000 meals daily beginning on Wednesday for victims of the catastrophic flooding. Today, Mercy Chefs largest mobile kitchen left Virginia and will arrive on site in Houston by Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday’s first meal at their second relief site.
