The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows slight improvement drought conditions in Iowa, at least in one part of the state.
Rainfall in northwest Iowa helped to reduce the amount of land considered abnormally dry, or in severe or moderate drought.
A large part of Iowa, however, remains in some form of drought. South central Iowa counties continue to experience the worst conditions.
This week the USDA declared 10-counties in Iowa disaster areas, due to drought conditions. Farmers in those counties, as well as those in 16 contiguous counties may qualify for federal assistance.
