Crews from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa continue their efforts in Texas, helping rescuers find stranded pets.
ARL staffers are also helping load existing sheltered animals to be transported to other states to free up Texas shelters to accept displaced pets. Officials say keeping the those pets in Texas will increase the chances of being reunited with their owners.
The ARL's Mobile Rescue Team has been deployed, by one of the national rescue organizations, to provide staff trained specifically in water rescues and assist however else is needed.
Authorities are discouraging people from self-deploying to help in the relief effort, and instead work through established channels.
