(Des Moines, IA) Police say one person was killed, two others injured in a car vs semi crash on the city's far northeast side early this (Thursday) afternoon.
Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parezik tells WHO Radio News the driver of a small passenger car was northbound on E. 38th Street, stopped at a stop sign at East Broadway, but then for an unknown reason, drove into the intersection. A semi tractor trailer was headed east on Broadway, and was unable to stop in time, and hit the car, sending it into a deep north ditch.
One person died at the scene, two others were transported to Des Moines hospitals in critical condition. One patient was taken by helicopter, the other by ambulance.
Sergeant Parezik says the crash location borders Des Moines city limits, so multiple agencies from Des Moines, and Polk County responded, including Bondurant and Delaware Township.
Police expect to release more details later today.
