Police say man with gun left after Johnston bank door was locked

JOHNSTON, IA - Police are trying to track down a man in what they say is an attempted bank robbery this morning in Johnston.

Officers were called to the Bank Iowa at 5525 Merle Hay Road at about 9:15 Monday morning.

A police spokesman tells WHO Radio News that the man had a black handgun and tried to pull the front door open, but it was still locked.

Johnston Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 5′ 10″ to 6′, heavyset with curly black hair. 

He was wearing a black mask with a white skull print on it, blue jeans, a gray t-shirt, and white shoes.
