Waterloo man charged with breaking baby's leg changing diaper

WATERLOO, IA - A Waterloo man is accused of breaking a 7-month-old baby's leg while changing her diaper.

Waterloo police arrested 21-year-old Toyreone Keandre Foster-Stevensen on Friday for child endangerment causing serious injury. 

KWWL TV reports the criminal complaint says Foster-Stevensen told police he was drinking and got upset when he saw the infant's diaper had leaked.  Foster-Stevensen told police that while he was changing the infant's diaper, he jerked her leg causing it to pop. 

The criminal complaint goes on to say he put a bottle in her mouth to get her to stop crying. Foster-Stevensen also admitted to police he tried to hide the injury from the baby's mother.   

The 7-month-old was taken to Covenant Hospital on Friday, September 15th, where doctors discovered a broken right femur. Doctors also discovered a separate injury involving a broken bone in her shoulder. Police say Foster-Stevensen denied he caused the injury to the infant's shoulder. 

Police say Foster-Stevensen claimed the injury went unchecked for a week. However in the criminal complaint, police detail that after doctors looked at the baby, they believe the injury happened weeks ago. Foster-Stevensen was booked at the Black Hawk County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Police have requested a no-contact order in the case.
