(WASHINGTON D.C.) A former Iowa Department of Transportation director, being considered to lead the Federal Highway Administration is being asked how he'd deal with falling fuel tax revenue, caused by more efficient cars.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a member of the Senate Committee for Environment and Public Works, asked Paul Trombino "Other than increasing the gas tax, which would really be an uphill battle here in Congress, what are other ways we can fund our roads and bridges?"
"I think at the federal level there is a strong mix of opportunity in different types of fees and other things that can be potentially on the table, especially as it comes to freight and other types of issues as you look into the future," said Trombino.
