(Des Moines, Iowa) Fire burned a homeless campsite south of Grand Avenue, and west of Fleur Drive this (Wednesday) afternoon. Crews were called to the site around 1:30, and put out the fire quickly. There were no injuries. The person living at the site was not there at the time.
Crews used 400 feet of hose from a fire-truck in the parking lot behind the Red Cross building on Grand Avenue, down a steep, winding, wooded, pathway to reach the site. Fire officials tell WHO Radio News that's about twice the length of hose used in a typical house fire.
