A couple of Des Moines teens thought they could steal a running car...but they returned it when they found a baby inside.
It happened in the 3100 block of Fourth around 11:30am. Police say they got a call from a witness who said she heard the mother scream "you've got my baby" as the thieves took off.
Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek says the mother apparently left the car running and her infant inside the car as she went back into her home for an item. The teens took the vehicle as she was leaving.
Parizek says the teens left the car a short distance from where they stole it, after learning there was a baby inside. He says neighbors have been providing "all kinds of evidence" and even some surveillance video that leads him to believe the two will be arrested.
The child wasn't injured and the car was undamaged.
