(Des Moines, Iowa) State Troopers, and Des Moines Police Officers are getting ready for the annual "Arresting Hunger" campaign later this month.
The Monday of Thanksgiving troopers and officers will assemble and deliver 125-Thanksgiving meals to needy families, one meal to a needy family in each Iowa county, and 25 meals to families in the city of Des Moines. Police chaplains identify the families in need.
Food Bank of Iowa C-E-O Michelle Book says the officers support the program, but if others wish to contribute, they can. They hope to raise 25-thousand dollars this year.
Book says the Food Bank of Iowa serves 55 counties, working with 500 partner agencies, to serve 175--thousand Iowans. She says it's been estimated that up to 12-percent of Iowans live in poverty and food insecurity is closely connected to poverty.
