Des Moines hit & run driver leaves behind clue

(Des Moines, Iowa) Des Moines Police were hoping a coat, left at the scene of a hit-and-run crash at East 23rd and Lyon, on the city's east side Monday, would lead them to a person who left the scene.

They posted a picture of the coat, and have found the original owner,  who has a solid alibi, and is not a suspect in this case.  The original owner told police he had discarded the jacket.

Police say  27-year-old Anthony Hite was hurt after a suspect driving a stolen car crashed into Hite's vehicle.   Hite remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The coat is gray and has "Jedd" embroidered on the front in blue letters.   Police say the suspect is described as a white male, wearing gray jeans and backwards black baseball cap.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Des Moines Police Department at 515-283-4811, or Crimestoppers of Central Iowa at 515-223-1400, or submit an anonymous tip online at www.crimestoppersofcentraliowa.com.
